【摘要】:1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresforthedescriptionofsoilsforengineeringpurposes.1.2Thispracticealsodescribesaprocedureforidentifyingsoils,attheoptionoftheuser,basedontheclassificationsystemdescribedinTestMethodD2487.Theidentificationisbasedonvisualexaminationandmanualtests.Itmustbeclearlystatedinreportinganidentificationthatitisbasedonvisual-manualprocedures.1.2.1Whenpreciseclassificationofsoilsforengineeringpurposesisrequired,theproceduresprescribedinTestMethodD2487shallbeused.1.2.2Inthispractice,theidentificationportionassigningagroupsymbolandnameislimitedtosoilparticlessmallerthan3in.(75mm).1.2.3Theidentificationportionofthispracticeislimitedtonaturallyoccurringsoils(disturbedandundisturbed).Note1Thispracticemaybeusedasadescriptivesystemappliedtosuchmaterialsasshale,claystone,shells,crushedrock,etc.(see).1.3Thedescriptiveinformationinthispracticemaybeusedwithothersoilclassificationsystemsorformaterialsotherthannaturallyoccurringsoils.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.ForspecificprecautionarystatementsseeSection8.1.6Thispracticeoffersasetofinstructionsforperformingoneormorespecificoperations.Thisdocumentcannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthispracticemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.ThisASTMstandardisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisdocumentbeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaproject'smanyuniqueaspects.Theword"Standard"inthetitleofthisdocumentmeansonlythatthedocumenthasbeenapprovedthroughtheASTMconsensusprocess.
